Zap 2 it Jack White pays $142K to save historic Detroit Masonic Temple Jun 05th, 2013 By Chris E. Hayner
Why did White choose to step in and save the building? It turns out the temple is a pretty legendary concert venue, which counts The Who and the Rolling Stones among the bands who have taken its stage. White has performed there himself, both as a solo artist and a member of the White Stripes, and spent time at the temple growing up in Detroit. His mother also served as an usher there for a time.
The building, which features over 1,000 rooms, was close to being auctioned off after being delinquent with its tax payment between 2010 and 2012. The sale can now be avoided and as a thank you, the temple's Cathedral Theater will be renamed the Jack White Theater.
