WLBZ2.com GEORGE WASHINGTON'S BIBLE ON DISPLAY IN BANGOR The Bible on which George Washington took the presidential oath of office in 1789 is on display Saturday during the Maine Masons' annual convention at Husson College in Bangor. May 7, 2005 BANGOR, Maine (AP) -- The Bible is owned by the St. John's Masonic Lodge in New York, the city where Washington was inaugurated.. When not on display under a Plexiglas case, it's stored in a vault at an undisclosed location. This is believed to be the first time that the Bible has been displayed in Maine. In addition to Washington, the Bible has been used at the inaugurations of Presidents Warren Harding, Dwight Eisenhower, Jimmy Carter and George Herbert Walker Bush. |
