Caller-Times - Corpus Christi TX Shriners asking for $4.7M in donations for arena By Barbara Ramirez/Caller-Times February 19, 2007 Corpus Christi Al Amin Shriners are asking the public and local corporations to help raise about $4.7 million to build a mult-purpose arena to support community organizations and events. Arenas such as the American Bank Center have restrictions and are not cost efficient, which cripples small and mid-sized organizations, Shriner officials said. One of the Shriners' main fundraisers is the Shrine circus. The proposed arena would be built on the same 18 acres as the Shriner Center on Suntide Road. The air-conditioned building will include seating for as many as 3,500 people, concession stands, locker rooms, lighted parking and a large grass area for other events. |
