Ernest Fuhr II was born July 6, 1940, to Walter T. and Eva Powell Fuhr. Ernie attended Reynolds High School and he was a member of the first Senior class to graduate from Rockridge High School in 1958. Ernie farmed with his family members in the Edgington area for his entire life and he enjoyed a successful career with the Illinois Secretary of State Police, where he worked as a Police Investigator for 33.3 years, retiring in 1997. Ernie married Sally Jo Roesner (Colona) on Sept. 11, 1965, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He was an accomplished high power rifle shooter, lifetime member of the NRA, member of the Illinois State Rifle Association and a certified range officer and handgun-training instructor for the Illinois Secretary of State Police during his career. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and many outdoor activities as well as the time he shared with family. He loved dogs.

He was a 50-year member of Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he served as a trustee and deacon. Ernie and Sally also were members of Trinity United Methodist Church, and he enjoyed Sunday school at the Andalusia Community Baptist Church.

Ernie also was a member of the Andalusia and Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodges and the Andalusia Eastern Star. He was a former District Deputy Masonic Grand Master of the 13th Northern District and he served as Master of his Masonic Lodge no fewer than six times. Ernie was a proud Mason and he dedicated his life to both Freemasonry and Illinois law enforcement.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Sally Fuhr; children, Ernest N. (Stephanie) Fuhr III, Ben (Jenn Hull) Fuhr and Bill (Carrie) Fuhr; grandchildren, Madeline and Will Fuhr; brother, Allan (Janet) Fuhr; sister, Nancy (Jim) Cooksey; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, Ernest and Nancy Fuhr and Sherman and Margaret Powell.

The Fuhr family would like to especially thank Dr. Mohammed I. Rajput (Aledo, Illinois) for his professionalism, his honesty and his many years of friendship. The family would also like to give a special thank you to the entire staff of the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their hospitality, kindness, compassion and the care they gave to the family and Ernie during his short stay.
